“I maybe here for a shortwhile, gone tomorrow into oblivion or until the days come to take me away. But, in whatever part you play, be remembered as part of a legacy…of sharing dreams and changing humanity for the better. It’s that legacy that never dies” -Unknown

Minor Bug Fix / New Feature: Tooltip Scrolling

Eternos life timeline tooltips: now with scrolling! If you had a bunch of artifacts* in a tooltip before, it led to content navigation issues. Long story short, scrolling is a seemingly minor feature to add, but it is now much easier to view your artifacts.

*a eternos artifact = photos, facebook activity, tweets, email, uploaded files, etc.

“We are a continuum. Just as we reach back to our ancestors for our fundamental values, so we, as guardians of that legacy, must reach ahead to our children and their children. And we do so with a sense of sacredness in that reaching.” -Paul Tsongas

The Eternos Video Diary Part 1

We consider the video diary a cornerstone of our service and perhaps one of the most valuable gifts you can leave to posterity. Video diary entries capture appearance, mannerisms, speech, surroundings, and subtle body language. Great as that is, it’s easy to draw a blank or feel ill at ease seeing yourself in the display while talking into a cam. With that in mind, I thought it might be helpful to start providing daily topic suggestions (until we incorporate a proper suggestion tool into our software). It is our sincere hope you take advantage of this feature, there is no doubt your entries will be treasured for many generations to come.

Follow us on twitter here for the daily suggestion.

Part 2 coming soon.

A Minor Milestone, More to Come

We logged our 100,000th artifact today. We only started accepting new user accounts this week, so we’re feeling pretty thankful. That’s 100k+ pics/vids, tweets, Facebook activity, video diary entries, and emails preserved for posterity. We’re hard at work developing new features, we’ll have an announcement on monday.

Have a great weekend!

Regards,

Eric

Your Story Is Meaningful & Worth Telling

“I believe that every human soul is teaching something to someone nearly every minute here in mortality.” -M. Russell Ballard

We have had a guiding belief since the genesis of Eternos, that each and every human being is unique, and has a important story to tell. How to chronicle that story is where things get complicated. People are busy today, they have jobs (if they’re lucky), families to raise, things to do. The last thing most of us have time for anymore is something as quaint, old fashioned, and time consuming as a diary, scrap booking, or editing their own “letters” (email) for posterity.

Addressing this issue is where Eternos.com really shines, we offer each and every person on this planet (with a internet connection) the ability to automatically chronicle their life by logging their online persona and whatever else they care to share. What is your online persona? Your online persona is your Facebook activity, tweets, blog posts, photo’s and videos you share on sites like Picasa and Youtube. If you’re not into the “social” thing, you can upload files directly, or create video diary/log entries. We back it all up and set it to a timeline of your life, totally free. Of course this is all secure and private, the only people who will see your life chronicle are determined by you.

Am I starting to bore you with details? Let’s get personal.

I’m up late reflecting upon the importance of our mission because we recently lost a member of our team. I won’t name this person out of respect to his family, let’s just call him John. John was going to partner with us in the EU, he really believed in what we’re doing, I imagine he’d have been an excellent partner. John turned 28 ~2 weeks before his death, he was a victim of the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th. It was a tragic, senseless, totally random, heartbreaking loss to all that knew him. Undoubtedly he never saw his imminent demise coming.

What’s my point?

My point is this, life is short, tomorrow is promised to no man or woman. You may not have a family of your own, you may have already lost your parents, and maybe what family remains is distant. Or not. Maybe you have all the loved ones in the world. Either way there are people that care about you, that will miss you when you’re gone, people that you have touched without even knowing it. Maybe you made a comment on their Facebook post that brought a smile to their face. Perhaps you made a blog post that really resonated with them. Maybe you occasionally went out for drinks and forgot about your worries together. Either way you connected with them.

Shortly before John died, he shared with a friend that he felt lonely at times. A few days after his death ~600 people had joined a ad hoc Facebook page dedicated to him. It is surely the most heart-wrenching outpouring of grief I have ever witnessed. So let me assure you my friend, you have touched more people than you can possible imagine, and one day your number will be up.

How will you be remembered? What have you learned, what is essential to your character, what defines you, and what do you want the future to know about you? Eternos is nothing more than a blank canvas for you to fill with treasured memories, interactions, and insight. We would be honored if you would consider using our humble service.

Sincerely,

Eric
